During the Consultation Forum on BACS, reference was made to a study on ICT alongside the development of Ecodesign measures. The aim is to propose a policy approach for improving energy efficiency and wider circular economy aspects of ICT.

<p>The Consultation Forum on the Ecodesign preparatory study for Building Automation and Control Systems (BACS) held on 15 November 2021 was to present proposed policy measures. The meeting however did not produce clear outcomes and policy conclusions.</p>

The Ecodesign Preparatory Study on Smart Appliances (Lot 33) started in 2014 and published its final reports in 2018. Smart appliances support Demand Side Flexibility (DSF). The Commission has asked its Joint Research Centre (JRC) to support the development of policy proposals for energy smart appliances.
