UK Energy Technology List Scheme: Its future direction and technical changes to the 2020 update (GEN – 1252.00)

<p>The UK Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) ran this consultation in mod 2020. It received input from 18 respondents. Of interest is the overview published on 12 June 2021 that includes future orientations and therefore is of importance to manufacturers operating in or exporting to the UK.</p>

Recent activities of European Union Product Compliance Network

Regulation EU 2019/1020 on Market Surveillance and Compliance of Products applies to all products subject to EU harmonised Regulations, e.g. Ecodesign Implementing Regulations and provides for an enforcement of market surveillance activities. The Regulation also indicated that by 2021 a EUPCN would be set up. A draft guidance has also been developed for joint activities to promote compliance.

Paper published with proposal to modify HFC phasedown schedule

Just before the F-Gas consultation meeting on 06 May, the German Federal Environment Agency (Umweltbundesamt – UBA) released a scientific paper that proposes a more ambitious phase-down: 25% in place of 31% in 2024, 15% in place of 24% in 2027 and 10% in place of 21% in 2030 as set out in the F-Gas Regulation 517/2014.

Review of the Methodology of Ecodesign of Energy related Products (MEErP) (GEN – 1251.00)

<p>On 11 June, the MEErP revision team invited stakeholders to the first stakeholder meeting. A 29-page document outlines the Task 1: Updating of the EcoReport tool and Task 2: More systematic inclusion of material efficiency aspects and of environmental footprint/ecological profile aspects in the design options and in the Least Life Cycle Costs (LLCC) curve.</p>

Training sessions on Product Environmental Footprint

The European Commission DG Environment proposed the Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) and Organisation Environmental Footprint (OEF) methods as a way of measuring environmental performance. It will organise training sessions for interested stakeholders. It looks like PEF may possibly fit in future legislation.
